KJV And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

NET David said to God, "Was I not the one who decided to number the army? I am the one who sinned and committed this awful deed! As for these sheep— what have they done? O LORD my God, attack me and my family, but remove the plague from your people!"
ERVEN David said to God, "I am the one who sinned. I gave the order for the people to be counted! I was wrong. The Israelites did not do anything wrong. Lord my God, punish me and my family, but stop the terrible sicknesses that are killing your people."
